Support : DialogLink : Online Help : SAVE SEARCH

SAVE SEARCH

Abbreviation: SAVE can be used in place of SAVE SEARCH
Command Format: SAVE SEARCH
SAVE SEARCH <name>
SAVE TEMP
SAVE TEMP <name>

SAVE SEARCH lets you save a search strategy on the Dialog system until you choose to RELEASE it. A nominal amount is charged each month for storage. SAVE TEMP saves your search strategy for seven days, then automatically deletes it. Both types of SAVE provide an easy way to re-use search strategies without re-keying.

When you wish to use the search again, you simply use the EXECUTE command and the search name to rerun the search in any database. You can RECALL a list of your saved searches or the strategy of a specific saved search if you need a reminder of what you have saved.

In DialogLink, the SAVE SEARCH/SAVE TEMP command opens a window that makes it easy to save a search strategy.

To save a search strategy:

  1. When you are ready to save your search strategy and still logged in to Dialog, enter the SAVE TEMP command to save the strategy for seven days or the SAVE or SAVE SEARCH command to save the strategy until you elect to delete it. You can either type the command in the Type-Ahead buffer, or click a set in the Set Links section of the Linking Pane and select Save Search or Save Temp from the Tasks menu. The Edit Save Search or Edit Temp Search window opens.

SAVE SEARCH

  1. Enter a name for the search in the Name box. If you included a name in the SAVE command, the name is pre-entered in the Name box when the Edit Search box opens. A search name can be up to thirty alphanumeric characters.

  2. Review the search strategy and edit if desired.

  3. Click Save to save the search strategy and close the Edit window. The search is saved for seven days for the SAVE TEMP command or indefinitely for SAVE and SAVE SEARCH.

The SAVE command stores any of the following commands that you entered since your last BEGIN command:

IDENTIFY DUPLICATES
IDENTIFY DUPLICATES ONLY
PRINT
PRINT TITLE
REMOVE DUPLICATES
Comment Lines
SELECT
SELECT STEPS
SET
SORT

A RECALL of the saved search displays all of these command lines, but PRINT and PRINT TITLE do not EXECUTE when you run the Temp Search online with EXECUTE or EXECUTE STEPS.

Other commands, such as EXPAND, DISPLAY SETS, RANK, TYPE, are not stored.

To run a saved search

BEGIN one of more files then enter the EXECUTE command followed by the saved search name.

To display a list of your saved search strategies

Use the RECALL TEMP command to display names of temporary saved searches and RECALL SAVE to display names of permanently saved searches. Use the command followed by the name of a specific saved search to display the search strategy.

To delete a saved search strategy

Use the RELEASE command followed by the saved search name to delete the saved search strategy

To edit a saved search strategy

In DialogLink you can use the EDIT command to modify a saved search strategy or to use one saved search to create another with similar strategy. When you enter EDIT followed by the name of a saved search in DialogLink, the command opens the Edit Save Search or Edit Temp Search window where you can make and Save changes. If you rename the search, it is stored as a new saved search.
