Search Techniques
Mining NewsRoom for Aerospace & Defense Stories

Every story in the Dialog NewsRoom database is indexed for product/industry (Dialog PN= / DataStar .PN.). Key product/industry name codes are:

bullet aeronautics and space technology
bullet aerospace
bullet military equipment
bullet military electronics
bullet security
bullet security systems and electronics
bullet weapon systems
bullet airborne forces
bullet seaborne forces
bullet ground forces

Additional indexing is available for geographic location (Dialog /GN or GN= / DataStar .CN.), language (Dialog LA= / DataStar .LG.), company (Dialog /CO or CO= / DataStar .CO.) and event name (Dialog /DE or EN= / DataStar .SC.). Combining Event Name with a Product/Industry Name can yield highly relevant stories, for example:

Dialog:
pn=weapon systems and en=forecasts

DataStar:
weapon-systems.pn. and forecasts.sc.

Note that Event Name and Product/Industry Name are included in the Descriptor Field index.

Aerospace Workforce Incentives Preserve Industry’s Most Valuable Resources

An important issue for the U.S. aerospace industry as a whole is manpower. Currently, there is a shortage of younger professionals skilled in technical fields and in the number of employees in the aerospace manufacturing sector. Average ages of the aerospace workforce are also increasing. Click here to read an article about this issue facing the industry from the AIA Web site.

CSACSA Databases on Dialog Expand High Tech and Engineering Collections
Dialog has expanded its High Technology and Engineering collections with CSA databases. Engineering content from CSA includes specialty files, such as Mechanical & Transportation Engineering Abstracts (File 14) and Engineered Materials Abstracts (File 293). Solid State and Superconductivity Abstracts (File 68) focuses on basic and applied research in aeronautics, astronautics and space sciences, as well as supporting fields such as chemistry, geosciences, physics, communications and electronics. Because solid state and superconductivity technology has a profound impact on virtually every industry, it is included in the High Tech category. These files are available on a transactional basis and by subscription. Three other CSA databases — CSA Aerospace and High Technology Database (File 108), METADEX® (File 32) and CSA Technology Research Database (File 23) , a comprehensive mega-file comprising engineering, high technology and materials research — are available by subscription only.

Custom CSA report templates, Dialog eLinks and links to related research materials are available for CSA files through DialogLink 5. Searchers can use the custom templates to quickly process their research into a desired format, such as Microsoft® Word, for distribution to customers, managers and others in their organization. For more information on CSA files available through Dialog, visit our Web site at www.dialog.com/csaenews.
