SEPTEMBER 2011
This Business e-Newsletter is designed to keep you on top of new and upcoming announcements for the ProQuest business product line, and introduce you to some of the complementary resources on Dialog.
The value of Hoover's™ Company Records as provided by ProQuest just got even better!
With the announcement of the addition of Hoover's™ Company Records to Serials Solution Summon™ Service, researchers now have access to thorough and up-to-date business information on their projects. Featuring profiles of more than 40,000 companies, 600 industries and 225,000 key executives, Hoover's Company Records is one of the world's leading electronic distributors of information about U.S. and global companies, industries, and the people who lead them.
Searchers can link to Hoover's Company Records from the text of articles mentioning companies with Hoover's profiles, directly to the Hoover's Company profile for that company.
The Hoover's indexed records in Summon™ match up with some 40,000 full-text company profiles available for Hoover's Company Records via ProQuest (also visible within ABI/INFORM® and ProQuest Entrepreneurship). This is because the Hoover's records in Summon are — as are approximately 400 Million other records — provided from ProQuest.
Pulling up shaky numbers? Get on solid ground with two new ProQuest statistical products
Statistics drive business decisions. How big is the market? Who owns market share? How much will it cost? Some of the statistics in a business case are internally generated. Others come from external sources. For one set of numbers you can rely on your finance department; for the other you can rely on ProQuest.
Finding statistics is difficult and can take hours of digging. No, you won't find just what you need on recent data from the open Web. Usually your questions are very specific — overtime pay in the aerospace industry, number of athletic shoes purchased by households annually. It seems the data is nowhere to be found. Data collection is expensive and there has to be a financial or legal reason to collect it. Over and over again the numbers are for broader, rather than narrower concepts — you want drug stores by county, but the available data shows health and personal care stores by country.
Two new products from ProQuest can bring you hero status in your company:
- ProQuest® Statistical Insight enables you to search across content compiled from thousands of reliable public domain and licensed sources, whether the information is found in tables, statistical reports, publication abstracts or datasets. Includes:
- Economic indicators for every country in the world — and U.S. states and regions
- Business outlook surveys of government and industry experts
- Salary and benefits data by industry and occupation
- Market share
- ProQuest® Statistical DataSets, available alone or as part of ProQuest Statistical Insight, is a Web-based research solutions agent that lets you build your own statistical charts and tables. It is a unique data visualization and analysis tool that can help pose the "why?" questions and provide the right answers.

ProQuest Dissertations & Theses adds new publishing partners
New institutions that began publishing dissertations in ProQuest Dissertations & Theses in 2011 include
ISNI Unique Author Identifier project for PQDT authors underway
ProQuest is moving forward with a project to assign International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) numbers to dissertation and thesis authors from the last 10 years. ISNI is a method of identifying the public identities of contributors to media content, including books, newspaper articles and other types of publications. Dissertations and theses titles submitted to PQDT are already assigned ISBN numbers, but the ISNI will provide another useful tool for distinguishing names that might otherwise be confused.
The ISNI will allow a single identity to be identified using a unique number.
ebrary e-content to be discoverable through the ProQuest platform
The latest issue of ProQuest Technology Newsletter describes how the best of ProQuest and ebrary is coming together on the all-new ProQuest platform. Later this year, the integration will allow for a simultaneous search of ebrary's rapidly growing selection of more than a quarter of a million books along with ProQuest's highly diverse content. Searchers will be able to connect to full text from the Results screen, moving directly through ebrary's powerful search engine — and they'll have access to both platforms' cutting-edge research tools.
