Training Updates

From the Editor

Dialog wishes you a happy and prosperous 2011. This year promises to be another one of innovation for Dialog. ProQuest Dialog™ launched in September 2010 and scientific and technical content and new features continue to increase. Watch for intellectual property content next. If you haven't joined Dialog Twitter or its new Facebook site make this one of your new year's resolutions.

Our goal for 2011 is to help you fully develop your research expertise by providing a wide array of training resources incorporating best practices for learning and development including:

  • Live, instructor-led Webinars focusing on the content, features and functionality of both the new ProQuest Dialog and legacy Dialog
  • Expert insights into effective research using the wide range of scientific, intellectual property and business content available
  • Multiple options for self-paced learning including pre-recorded modules, practice exercises and in-depth documentation
  • Opportunities for you to contribute your ideas, ask questions of the experts and more through Twitter, Facebook and a new Expert Insights from Dialog Global Customer Support blog coming soon.

NEW: ProQuest Dialog training

Have you been curious about the new ProQuest Dialog but haven't had time to learn what it's all about? With nine subject categories now on ProQuest Dialog, content encompasses Energy & Environment, Food & Agriculture, Engineering and Aerospace & Defense, to name some. With sources like Ei Compendex®, Inspec®, The Lancet®, IMS and Adis databases, you will want to learn more about the databases and how to use them on ProQuest Dialog.

Online training sessions

Join an online session with one of our expert trainers. Introduction to ProQuest Dialog provides instruction on the key features and functionality of the new service. Discover how to search for, find, use and share your research results, and learn where to access additional support including tutorials, help pages and documentation. A broad range of pharmaceutical, biomedical and engineering content is now available, and the complete collection of intellectual property and business content will be added in future releases. The 60-minute session covers:

Best in training: Developing Patent Research Expertise course series

This series offers you the best in training as demonstrated by research studies: no one-shot inoculation, interactivity with the material, instructor and other learners and reinforcement of the principles you have learned through practice.

"I am really learning a lot from your classes!"

"Another great session — I learned a lot and you validated a lot of the things I already do and didn't realize I know!"

These are a few of the comments from participants in our new four-part "Developing Patent Research Expertise on Dialog" series. Incorporating live search demonstrations, review of frequently-asked questions, discussion and practice exercises, the goal of this series is to provide a richer learning experience than is possible in a typical one-hour Webinar. With a goal of continually improving the seminar, future sessions will incorporate use of social media as well as even more opportunities for interactivity and practice. Stay tuned for announcements of similar multi-part series in other scientific and business content areas in the coming months!
