Find Biographical Information on a Director or Officer of a Company Using Directories?
TOPIC: Several databases on Dialog are good sources of biographical information on the directors or officers of companies. Some databases provide only basic biographical data, while others may include extensive biographical articles on specific individuals.
Directory databases often include a large number of biographical profiles, but they may provide only basic information about a particular director or officer. Most of the files listed below contain a Name field (either NM or NA) that can be used to locate biographical entries. Search examples are provided for the following files: Marquis Who's Who (File 234) and D&B Duns Financial Records Plus™ (File 519).
Note: In File 519, the company history section of a record includes a list of some of the officers, as well as a few lines of biographical information. Since this file does not have a Name field, the best strategy is to perform a free-text search on the person's name and combine it with the company name, if known (e.g., s marc(2n)andreessen and netscape/co).

HOW TO...

1. BEGIN in File 234, Marquis Who's Who.
2. Visual Expand the NM= field to determine if the person of interest is covered in the database.
3. Check entries that are similar to your named person and click Select.
Note: You may have to try different spellings of a name to be comprehensive. |

|

4. Visual Expand again using another form of the person's name.
5. Check the names similar to this form of the person's name and click Select.
Note: In Biography Master (File 287), NA= is used to find the person's name. |

|

6. Combine the two sets using the OR connector.
7. Include the company name of the person if you know it. Use CO= and a question mark at the end of the company name to retrieve all forms of the company name.
Alternatively, you can search the company name using the /CO suffix (e.g., microsoft/co). |

|

8. TYPE the record using Format 9 to retrieve the entire record.
A portion of this record is omitted from the display. |
