Locate All Patents for a Specific Company? TOPIC: In this example, you will obtain all patents that relate to Cincinnati Milacron, a worldwide manufacturer of machine tools, using Derwent World Patents Index® (File 351). Patent assignees are searched using the PA= prefix. In addition, if a company has a significant number of patents, it may be assigned a code by the database producer. The code may vary depending on the database. Derwent World Patents Index provides a four-digit assignee code (CARL) as in this example. If a company does not hold enough patents to be assigned a separate code, it may be assigned "N" which means that the code is also assigned to other companies. Using this assignee code can retrieve false hits. (Note: Derwent World Patents Index also includes "I" to designate patents assigned to individuals.) U.S. Patents Fulltext (Files 654, 652) and CLAIMS®/U.S. Patents (File 340) have numeric assignee codes (e.g., pa=53126). For the most comprehensive results, "OR" together the codes and the company name(s).
