Find the Extension Period for a Specific U.S. Patent?

TOPIC: For this example, you will check to see if U.S. patent 4733665 has been extended and what legal status changes the patent has undergone. Use CLAIMS®/Current Patent Legal Status (File 123) to find the most current legal status for U.S. patents. U.S. Patents Fulltext (File 654) also contains legal status.

Note: If you are looking for global patents, use INPADOC (File 345), which contains legal status for 22 countries and check How Do I Find the Legal Status of Patents in a Particular Country.

HOW TO...


1. BEGIN 123, CLAIMS/Current Legal Status, for the most up-to-date U.S. patent legal status.

 

 

2. SELECT U.S. patent number (PN=) and the type of document (DT=extended).

 

3. TYPE the patent using Format 9 to see what the extension period is.
