Set Up a Dialog Alert to Track All New Patents for a Specific Company?

TOPIC: In this example, you have obtained all patents that relate to Cincinnati Milacron, a worldwide manufacturer of machine tools, using Derwent World Patents Index® (File 351). You have viewed records to make sure the search is relevant. Now you want to set up a Dialog Alert to track new patents issued to this company and have the Alerts sent to your e-mail address.

Dialog Alert is a current awareness service that allows a search to run automatically whenever new records are added to the database and have the results delivered electronically to you. Most regularly updated databases have the Alert service. You can also customize the Alert schedule to meet your needs.

COMMAND SUMMARY

TYPE S1/3/1 (For the search, see How To Locate All Patents for a Specific Company)
Click the Set number > Tasks > Save Alert
Fill in the Alert Form, including Title, schedule and address
Click Save

HOW TO...

1. Create your search strategy and view some records to check for relevance. 2. Click S1 > Tasks > Save Alert to start the Alert set-up process.
3. From the Alert form, add a title for the Alert, select a schedule based on the update frequency of the database or customized to your own choosing and type your PRINT statement (e.g., Set number/format/ range of records addr e-mail address).             Note that the Alerts will go to the address indicated in the PRINT command. 4. When the Alert is created, click SAVE.
Tip: You can review your list of addresses by clicking the List Address button or create a new address by clicking the Create Address button and filling in the form that displays.
