Find Drug Brands Coming Off Patent?

TOPIC: For this example, you will identify brands that are coming off patent, their patent expiration dates and patent owners. The business databases (Gale Group PROMT® (File 16), TableBase™ (File 93), and Business & Industry™ (File 9)) provide information on this topic, along with tables and statistics. These databases have specific indexing to add in the search for patent information (e.g., event name (EN) for patents & copyrights).

HOW TO...


1. BEGIN 16 to search Gale Group Promt.

 

2. SELECT the drug name and combine S1 with the event name (EN) for patents.

3. TYPE a few records using the KWIC format to see your keywords in the context of the articles.

 

 

Note the listing of drugs either off or coming off patent protection.

4. TYPE the record in FULL format (T S2/9/1) to see tables and statistics.

Note statistics for price of brand and generic drug, top drugs with manufacturer and sales data going generic, as well as indication and expiration.
