Search by U.S. Provisional Application Number?
TOPIC: In the United States, an inventor may file a provisional application for a patent, which is a means to establish an early effective filing date in a patent application. The applicant then has up to 12 months to file a non-provisional application for the patent.
In this example, you will search for patent US 60/512001 filed October 16, 2003, to find out whether any patent documents reference this number as a priority application (the first application filed for an invention). The applicant then has up to 12 months to file a non-provisional application for the patent.
Provisional applications are always assigned the series number "60" followed by a 1-6 digit serial number. Unlike the series numbers used for regular U.S. applications (e.g. 09/, 10/, 11/), the series 60/ does not indicate a range of filing years.

2. In the U.S. files, EXPAND on the provisional application number after converting the 60/ to 60- and select the relevant entries.
