Find Relevant Trademarks Using Design Codes?
TOPIC: You can use the Thomson design code manual to find codes for the design elements of an image in a trademark. Because design searching is not an exact science, you may have many hits in your answer set. Limiting by International Class code and then by Goods and Services data is often necessary. You can also limit your answer further with the ACTIVE limiter (/ACTIVE). In this example, you will do a screening search for U.S. trademarks that are in class 29 and have men and camels in their designs.
You will search the U.S. Federal trademark file. TRADEMARKSCAN—U.S. Federal (File 226) covers all active, registered trademarks and service marks and applications for registrations filed for marks used or intended to be used on every type of product or service that is marketed commercially in the U.S.
Note: Using SELECT STEPS (SS) creates individual sets for each search word. This makes combining search terms easier.
