Displaying Records (continued)

A good format I can use to preview the content of the record is the KWIC or Keyword in Context format (Format K). This format allows me to see a window of 30 words around my search terms. It gives me more information about the topic so I can tell whether the record is pertinent to my research needs. Tip 4-2

To display more of the records, I enter the TYPE command, identifying the records I want to view in a more detailed format. Looking at records 1 – 5 should give us an idea of what research is being done on the iridium project.

...Abstract: few years has created formidable new tasks for the
space industry.
Systems such as the IRIDIUM (R) Program, Globalstar(R), and
Odyssey/sup(TM)/ challenge the long standing paradigm on how to design,
build, and launch satellites .
A second generation of big LEOs is now being planned
to offer broadband services for Internet access, cellular backhaul,
videoconferencing and distance learning. Systems such as
Teledesic/sup (TM)/ and M-Star are planned to make extensive use of
inter-satellite links. Until now, these crosslinks have been
implemented using RF technology, but as the data...

... of these systems increases, serious consideration must be given
to the use of optical inter- satellite links. Much has been
discussed in the media over the past years about the relative...

... This paper avoids this debate, and examines the reasons
that RF technology currently dominates inter- satellite links.
The cost of existing optical terminals for space is measured in
  the millions to...

... millions of dollars. These figures often compare to the total
on-orbit cost of the satellites in commercial constellations.
Clearly, a significant paradigm shift will be required in order
for producers of optical ISLs to realize a business from these
commercial satellite programs. This paper discusses both the
technical and programmatic requirements of terminals for such systems...

Title: Mobile satellite services: service implementation will
 determine winners and losers
Abstract: In 1998, commercial mobile satellite services (MSS)
will become available through IRIDIUM and possibly Globalstar.
Other entities are building mobile satellite systems for
commercial availability in the twenty-first century. The regulatory
 and service challenges of...

... customers are of such a magnitude that the technical risks in
building and launching multiple satellite constellations will
appear minimal by comparison. Service delivery will be challenging
and complicated because it will be carried out by various entities
not under the control of satellite owners.

More than one format can be used together separated by a comma.

A good choice is to combine titles with keywords in context (6,k) or titles and descriptors with keywords in context (8,k).
