Basic Commands

I will use several basic commands in the Command Search option. The first one is the BEGIN command to enter the database(s) of choice. Take a look at an example of the BEGIN command below.

Command Example When to Use It
BEGIN
B
begin 654
b 654
b 654,652
b patfull

Tip 2-1

Use BEGIN with a file number to specify the database(s) to be searched

In Lesson 1 we decided that U.S. Patents Fulltext (File 654) had the kind of information we needed for this topic. I will now type my BEGIN command at the question mark prompt and press ENTER.

?b 654
File 654:US Pat.Full. 1976-1999/May 25
       (c) format only 1999 The Dialog Corp.
*File 654: Reassignment data current through 01/07/99. Delayed data
from the USPTO now current through week 4/20/99. See HELP NEWS 654.
