Displaying Records

I want to view records from Set 4, which contains the combined sets from my search. Brian wants a brief listing of results so I will use the FREE format.

It is often a good idea to display a few records in FREE format before typing out complete records to make sure the search has retrieved relevant records.

To display records, we

  1. Choose a format from the drop-down list Learn More
  2. Indicate the number of records to display. The default is 10 records. A maximum of 99 records can be specified.
  3. Click display button for the appropriate set.

The Format list box identifies the basic format options. The format we select is used for the records retrieved when we click Display in the Search History table.

The common format options are listed below.

SHORT Displays titles and/or descriptors
MEDIUM Displays bibliographic citation
LONG Displays bibliographic citation, plus indexing, abstract or text, depending on the database

Search Tip 4-1:

An alternate way to display records is by using the TYPE command (abbreviated T).

The TYPE command has three parts:
Set number / format / range of records

Example:

Set / Format / Range of records
T s# / free / 1-3
