Lesson 6: Refining a Search (Part 2)
Objectives
- Understand the Additional Indexes of the Dialog Bluesheet
- Use the Dialog Bluesheet for prefix code searching
- Use the EXPAND command
Introduction
Chris -
I promise this is my last request. A scientist named Sugahara has apparently written quite a number of articles on the use of shark cartilage to promote nerve fiber growth. Can you get me some of the most recent articles he has written?
Thanks,
Brian
Before answering Brian's request, let's look again at the Dialog Bluesheets. This time we'll look at the Additional Indexes to identify an author and the articles he has written.
The Additional Indexes
In Lesson 5 we looked at the Basic Index to refine our search to the most relevant information on the use of marine sponges to treat cancer. Additional Indexes indicate how to narrow a search further by using information other than the subject of the search.
For example, we may want to find articles on a scientist's latest research. We may want to see in what journals the articles are being published. We may also want to see scientific data written only in the last year. In any of these cases, we will be searching Dialog's Additional Indexes.
