Lesson 2: Using Dialog Commands
Objectives
In this lesson, you will learn to:
- Use three of the basic commands
- Identify formats for patent numbers
- Conduct a search for a patent number using Classic Dialog
Introduction
We are now ready to conduct the search for Brian to get the patent for the Woosh. Before we start, I better send Brian a note to let him know we should have the information for him in minutes!
Brian —
I should have the information on the Woosh this AM. I'm going to get you the complete text of the patent. That should give you everything you need.

In this lesson we will look briefly at the basic commands necessary to perform this search and use the commands in DialogWeb to see results.
The search below is demonstrated using DialogWeb 2.0. You will have a chance to try searching DialogWeb on your own for the practice exercises at the end of the lesson.
To get started on DialogWeb 2.0, I will go to http://www.dialogweb.com and logon by entering my user ID and password and clicking the LOGON button.

After logon, click on the "Go to Command Search" link in the Quick Functions box to access the Command Search Main Page.
Command Search Main Page
The Command Search Main Page contains:
- A textbox for entering Dialog search commands
- A Submit button that sends the command
- A Previous button that displays the most recent command entries
