Basic Searches Part 2 — Summary
In this lesson we have identified the differences in formats in patent and application numbers on Dialog. We have also seen that application numbers often contain the application year as part of the Dialog entry.
We can see now how important the EXPAND command can be in searching patent and application numbers, as well as patent assignees and inventors. The search techniques we have reviewed in these five lessons enable us to conduct our own basic patent searches.
Go on to Lesson 6. We will be looking at conducting a free-text search for a subject.
