Sometimes it is necessary to do a subject search when you don't have a patent in hand. Subject searching is also necessary when looking for prior art. Check the introductory online courses for Engineering and Life Sciences for more information about subject searching in specific databases.
We will conduct our subject search for Brian in CLAIMS®/U.S. Patents, File 340. The CLAIMS database is an excellent source for subject searching since the producer of the database adds words to the titles of the patents to make the titles more descriptive.
