Conducting a Subject Search (continued)
Step 4: Use Logical Operators to link concepts
We used logical operators in Lesson 4 to connect a search for patent assignee and patent dates. We will use them again in this search to connect the different sets of concepts.
Now, I will put the entire search together. From the Dialog Command Search page, I will type in my BEGIN command: b 340 in the command text box.
I click
or press the Enter key on the keyboard to start the search.
Next, I enter the Dialog command SELECT command in the command text box followed by my search terms under Concept 1.
I will conduct several searches, entering each concept group as a separate search statement. A search history page appears showing the number of records I found.
I will now enter the second concept group in the Command text box and click
.
-
s game? or entertain? or amus? or play?
I will continue to refine the search by adding the third concept to the Command text box and clicking the
button.
-
s aircraft? or airplane? or flight or inflight or in(n)flight or fly?
