Monitoring Company and Industry News: Summary
In Lesson 2 we reviewed news sources available from Dialog. News can be found in newspapers, newswires, trade journals, and newsletters. We found that news sources are available regionally, nationally, and internationally.
Because many of the news sources are available in fulltext, it is often advisable to use the following techniques:
- Avoid the AND operator when doing free-text searching. Use proximity operators (s), (n), (w), (#w) and (#n).
- Limit search terms to the title or lead paragraph (/TI,LP) to locate articles about your topic, as opposed to just mentioning it. Also limit by length (/long) when available.
- Use the alternate technique for searching a company name: (/co)
In some databases, such as Business & Industry (File 9), Dialog Global Reporter (File 20), and Gale Group Promt (File 16), take advantage of the indexing of key terms using /de.
