Locating Industry Analyst Reports
The Investext database also contains analyst reports on the industry as a whole, along with major competitors in that industry. Bev's second request to Chris is about the fast food industry.
Chris,
I have already been doing some research on Burger King to see what they plan to do to compete in the fast food industry. Can you also get me an analyst report on the fast food industry so I can see what its prospects are?
Thanks much,
Bev
We have already looked at a company report. We can also limit our searches to just reports that focus on industries by using the prefix SF=industry.
Click the Command Summary icon to see a list of the commands for a search on the fast food industry.
We'll follow these steps:
- Enter our SELECT command in the command text box:
select sf=industry and fast(w)food and py=2010and click the
button. - Type s1/8/1-10 in the command text box to browse the first 10 titles and click
. A list of titles of reports on the fast food industry will appear.
Titles List
- We'll select the third report and TYPE out record 3 in the FULL format to look at the table of contents. Note: there is no charge to display the Dialog records in File 745. It's only when you click on a hyperlinked page to view it that a page cost ensues.
Table of Contents
It will probably be a good idea to look at the table charts of top picks and companies featured on page 1 of the report, as well as key changes, quarterly preview, selected companies and valuation & risks on Pages 3-5. Page 19 (not shown) has a table showing key brands and sales, which should provide insight.
This should give Bev what she needs, but I'll send her the complete table of contents in case other pages look interesting.
