Dialog Online Courses

Convenient, Self-Paced—and Free
Dialog presents a variety of free Online Course options for new and experienced users. Each course is made up of several lessons offering extensive information about content and search techniques. You begin and end the courses lessons at your convenience. You can even choose which lessons you wish to complete, although, to get the maximum benefits, we suggest you review all the lessons in the sequence they are presented. At the beginning of each lesson you will find introductory pages. Please do not skip these pages as they contain information about the course content, navigation, and links to each lesson.

Dialog presents a variety of free Online Course options for new and experienced users:

  • On-Demand Recorded Online Courses
  • Web-Based Online Courses

On-Demand Recorded Online Courses are self-contained presentations, made up of a series of slides, with audio, delivered via Brainshark using Flash. Use the control panel buttons, located at the bottom of every slide, to pause, backup, or skip to the next or previous slide. Jump to any slide using the index in the left-hand sidebar. Timings appear next to each slide in the index, so you can judge how much time each lesson will take. Can't finish it in one session? Just return to the course at your convenience and click on the slide where you left off. Each recorded online course has a total running time of approximately 1.5 hours. See descriptions of current list of recorded courses.

Web-Based Online Courses are made up of a series of Web pages, organized into separate lessons. You navigate through the course via hyperlinks at the bottom of the screen, or jump to a specific lesson using the index in the left-hand sidbar. Practice exercises in each lesson test your understanding of the topics covered. To perform your practice searches without incurring any online charges, use the free ONTAP user numbers and passwords to access Dialog. Plan on spending approximately 30-45 minutes for each lesson, or about 4-5 hours to complete each entire course.
