Lesson 5: The Prous Databases (Files 452,453,458, 459)Objectives After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
Introduction This is the final group of databases from the Pipeline files. The Prous family on Dialog contains four files. In the first part of Lesson 6, we will look at all of these files, but for most of the lesson we will focus on Prous Science Drug Data Report (File 452) and Prous Science Drugs of the Future (File 453), for its chemical image information. We'll look at the same drug, vatalanib, in these databases. Access to up-to-date R&D on drugs is an essential part of the drug development process. Although this information is available from a variety of vendors and focuses on product news, databases are textual in nature and do not contain the graphical images (compound structure) that is essential to know the chemical characteristics and mode of drug action. We will review four databases produced by Prous Science:
Prous Science Drug Data Report (File 452) is used for its continuously updated detailed information on products in current production from their early stages and patent applications through to post-marketing. Prous Science Drugs of the Future (File 453) is best used for its unique synthesis schemes and context tables. Go to the next page. 5-1 |
