Copying an Alert Using the Dialog Online Editor

This guide gives instructions for copying an Alert from one user number to another. It also includes a description of how to edit an Alert. BEGIN in a "free" file, e.g., b 410, to edit Alerts without incurring search charges.

Scenario: User 02418 wants to copy an Alert from user 07081. User 02418 will add a title to the Alert and change the address code.

Step 1
Use recall address to review addresses. If no addresses exist, use edit address to create an address. If an address is not provided in the PRINT command, Alert results will be sent to the default postal address for that user number.

Step 2
User 02418 selects the Alert to copy, DBTEST3, and types edit dbtest3/ user 07081.

Change the existing address to one stored under the user number that the Alert is being copied to.

Changes line 50 from an address code (abtammy)
on user number 07081 to an address code (adjane)
on the current user number.

Save the Alert. When creating the Alert in a "free" file, always specify the the file it's to be saved in.

Important: If a name is not provided for the Alert when it's being saved, the system will ask if you want to replace the Alert. Since you are not replacing the Alert, but copying it, select no to continue and allow the system to name the Alert.
